Supporting Young People Through School-Based Therapeutic Services

As a Certified Play Therapist & Child and Adolescent Counsellor registered with Play Therapy UK, I provide specialist support to children and young people in school settings across West Kent, including Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks.

Working exclusively within schools, I offer flexible therapeutic services that fit around the school day and meet the needs of individual pupils, groups, and families. From traditional face-to-face sessions to outdoor work and remote support, each service is designed to help young people process difficult emotions, build resilience, and thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Therapeutic, Support and Counselling Services

Child and Adolescent Counselling

I offer Play and Creative Arts Counselling for children and young people aged 10-21, an integrated approach that combines talking therapy with creative activities tailored to each individual’s needs and developmental stage. This method works particularly well for young people who find it easier to express themselves through art, music, drama, or play rather than words alone.

Sessions adapt to what feels most comfortable for each young person—some prefer more conversation, others focus primarily on creative expression. This approach is especially helpful for those experiencing anxiety, low mood, exam stress, peer relationship difficulties, family changes, bereavement, or challenges with self-esteem and confidence.

Through this approach, young people learn to understand their emotions better, develop practical coping strategies, and build resilience they can use in daily life.

Play Therapy

I provide individual and group Play Therapy sessions, each lasting 30-40 minutes weekly within the school setting. Every child works with a toolkit of play and creative materials, allowing them to express feelings and experiences at their own pace in a safe, confidential space.

Play Therapy helps children facing a wide range of behavioral or emotional difficulties, from anxiety and low self-esteem to trauma, bereavement, or family changes. Through the therapeutic relationship we build together, children learn to process difficult emotions, develop healthier coping strategies, and build confidence in themselves.

I work collaboratively with families and schools, liaising closely with parents whenever possible and providing regular feedback to teaching staff to support each child’s progress both in and out of sessions.

Outdoor Play Therapy Sessions

I can offer outdoor Play Therapy sessions when weather permits, providing an alternative therapeutic space that some children find more comfortable and freeing than indoor environments. Working on the school field or playground with a small shelter tent, these sessions allow children to connect with nature whilst engaging in therapeutic play.

The outdoor setting can be particularly beneficial for children who feel confined or anxious in closed spaces, those with high energy levels who struggle to settle indoors, or pupils who simply respond better to the sensory experience of being outside.

The change of environment can often reduce feelings of being “in therapy” and create a more relaxed atmosphere where therapeutic work can happen naturally.

Therapeutic Life Story Work

Therapeutic Life Story Work helps children aged 4-17 who are looked after, adopted, or in kinship care to understand their personal history, process trauma, and build stronger attachments with their carers.

This isn’t simply creating a memory book. It’s an evidence-based therapeutic approach delivered over 9-12 months in school settings, using creative activities and carefully researched information to help your child make sense of their experiences, strengthen their sense of identity, and feel more secure.

Children often become calmer, more focused, and less preoccupied with unanswered questions about their past.

Video Call Sessions

These were introduced during school closures to support children and their families.

These remote sessions ensure continuity of therapeutic work when face-to-face contact isn’t possible, preventing gaps in support during periods when children may be particularly vulnerable or isolated.

Video sessions follow a more structured format, with each child receiving individual craft kits and materials. These sessions have proven particularly valuable for maintaining therapeutic relationships during absences and can provide a helpful bridge for school-anxious pupils working towards returning to face-to-face support.

Parenting Courses

I offer two specialist parenting courses designed to strengthen parent-child relationships and build secure attachments. Both courses are interactive and supportive, giving parents practical skills and strategies they can use immediately at home.

Parent-Child Attachment focuses on understanding attachment theory and how it affects behaviour, teaching parents how to respond to their child’s emotional needs in ways that build trust and security. Baby Bonding supports new parents in forming strong early attachments with their babies, covering responsive caregiving, reading infant cues, and creating nurturing routines that support healthy development.

Both courses can be delivered face-to-face in school settings or remotely to groups of up to five parents, making them accessible to families with different needs and circumstances.

Consultancy for Schools

Considering play therapy provision for your school but unsure where to start? I offer consultancy services that guide leadership teams through the entire process, from understanding what play therapy offers to establishing effective systems that work.

I provide educational briefings, practical guidance on funding and logistics, and help you establish referral systems and outcome measurement approaches that demonstrate clear impact.
